You don’t understand how to tackle all the daily tasks associated with your baby- you are baffled while bathing him, caring him, feeding him. But the trickiest part is to make your kid sleep. You are all jaded when the time comes to get him sleep. The first and foremost way to make him sleep is to get him adapt himself to good sleeping habits. It is difficult for the infants to adapt themselves to an ambiance that is so different from his mother’s peaceful womb. It takes time to get habituated with this world. When he finally does, he sleeps comfortably and also gives you comfort.

There are different opinions about how to make the baby sleep. However there is no single highly effective tip to do that. But you must try out several ways to see what suits your baby best. You have to make your baby transition between his sleep and his wakefulness. If he finds this himself, he will fall asleep without aids from you. He is creating a timetable of falling asleep. The tips given below can help you to determine the best way possible to make your baby to feel transition. However, the best way out there is to rely on your intuitions.

Fathering down is a wonderful way. Fathering down is referred to the one when dad is around just before he is going to bed. Let dad cradle his child. The child’s head should rest on dad’s neck. While nurturing the baby thus, the father must talk to him in a soothing tone. Since the male voice pitch is deeper than the female’s, dad’s voice would be best for the kid to soothe him to fall asleep.

An option that has come up recently is ‘driving down’. It instructs to put the kid in his car seat and driving round for a short time, till he dozes off. But this method is inconvenient, spending the petrol. But if your baby doesn’t adapt to any other methods, you can try this one. It is observed that this is a very effective tip.

Even if these methods call for success, you are unable or rather are reluctant to drive around each night just to make your baby sleep. But you can go for them as these techniques basically make the baby learn the feel of dozing off. Once the baby gets habituated, you can get out of these drastic methods. You can later on replace driving car with rocking the baby in bassinet. The basic thing is to make the baby apprehend to transition into sleep. So you need to be a bit patient because you can’t expect your child to learn that all of a sudden.

About The Author

Opal Victoria is a mother and home owner. The reason it is so difficult for many parents - why parents of a newborn suffer from so many sleepless nights - is because your baby, at first, isn't used to sleeping on his own, and when he wakes up in the night he cries for his mother: being in the presence of his mother is only way he knows how to get to sleep. It is natural that this transition from sleeping with the mother, to sleeping on his own, will take some time for your baby. Many baby sleep tips involve setting up a strict nighttime routine, and introducing objects - such as stuffed animals - into the bed that your baby can associate with sleep. If you find after some months that your baby is still not able to sleep on his own, you can try what is known as the Ferber method.

Invented by Dr. Richard Ferber, the Ferber method is the most common way of weaning your child away from the mother, in terms of his sleep habits. It is usually successful within a couple of weeks. Nevertheless, it is important that you choose a week where you can afford to lose some sleep to begin the Ferber method. Especially at the beginning of the process, the Ferber method does require that you spend a lot of time listening to your baby crying, and if you attempt it at a time when you are desperate to sleep, you run the risk of breaking down and allowing your child to sleep with you, or sleeping in the room with him. If you do so you risk undoing a lot of work that you will have put into the method.

The first night you attempt the Ferber method, put your child to bed as you normally do. Your baby should be tired but still awake when you put him to bed, so that he is left to fall asleep on his own. After you leave the room, the baby will inevitably start crying. Allow him to cry for about 5 minutes, then re-enter the room to console him. It's important that you stay in the room for only a short time - even if he is still crying - and that you don't pick him up or rock him. This second time you leave the room, wait 10 minutes before returning in the same manner. The third time wait 15 minutes, and set this as a maximum wait time for the rest of the night.

Every time thereafter, enter the room briefly and then allow your child to cry for 15 minutes. Eventually, he will fall asleep on his own during one of the 15 minute intervals in which you are out of the room. The second night, you should begin with a 10 minute wait before re-entering the room, followed by 15 and then 20 minutes. In a similar fashion, increase your initial and subsequent wait times by 5 minutes each night.

Using this method your child will soon learn to go to sleep on his own. Although it can be difficult to listen to your baby cry, understand that the Ferber method is a safe and effective way of getting your baby to learn to sleep on his own.

About The Author

Brandon C. At some point the question about the best ways to wash baby clothing will arise. Parents typically ask whether there is a certain type off detergent that they should use, whether it is safe to wash baby clothes with the rest of the family's clothing and what special steps should be taken with cloth diapers if they are being used.

Detergent

This is a valid concern. It is not atypical for certain detergents to irritate the skin of adults and older children, so it is certainly feasible that a baby's tender and sensitive skin can be easily irritated by harsh detergents. There are several detergents on the market that are supposedly intended for baby's clothing, but there is not much difference between them and other mild detergents. The best choice for parents to make in this area is to purchase mild detergent that is free from added colors and fragrances and wash the clothing in that. If the baby does develop a rash or seems to be experiencing skin discomfort of any kind, the first thing to do is consult the family pediatrician. The doctor may simply recommend that a different detergent be used, but will also be able to determine if there is a more serious problem.

Washing Baby Clothes with Family Clothes

Some parents feel that the baby's clothing needs to be washed separately from that of the rest of the family. The rationale for this is that the other family members' clothing could somehow taint or contaminate the baby's. There is no reason to worry about this and it is perfectly safe to wash baby's clothes and bedding along with everyone else's. The exception to this rule is cloth diapers. If parents are using cloth diapers and washing them at home rather than using a diaper service, they must be washed apart from everything else.

Cloth Diapers

Cloth diapers are fading into memory, replaced by the more convenient disposable brands that are on the market. For families that choose to use these, however, there are some special considerations. The most sanitary way to utilize reusable cloth diapers is to contract a diaper service. This will take away the hassle of washing the diapers at home and ensure that the replacement diapers are sterile. For families that choose to wash at home, the previous paragraph details that they should be kept separate from all other laundry. Storing the diapers until wash time must be done as sanitarily as possible. This means rinsing the cloth diaper in the toilet to remove solid wastes, then storing it in a pail until it is time to be washed. The pail should be covered to prevent odor and lined with a disposable or washable liner. The pail, lid, and liner should be cleaned whenever the diapers are and the soiled diapers should be washed at least twice weekly.

About The Author

Mike Cliff http://www.opensalon.net

Are You at a Loss on How to Find a Unique Baby Gift?

Purchasing the unique baby gift may be viewed upon in two manners. Some people see it as a perfect pleasure while others see it as an impossible task. The task remains the same whether it is a family member, friend, or work colleague bearing the new bundle. But with our already time consuming schedules how are we suppose to find the time to think up extravagant gift ideas? It is simple with a few small seconds of thought and a little personalization every baby gift may become a unique baby gift. If you still don’t have enough time for a seconds thought follow a few of the gift ideas below and you will be guaranteed to satisfy.

Personalized gift baskets: Gift baskets are probably one of the most popular present ideas available, so how will you make sure yours is unique? Everyday items such as diapers, wipes, lotion, and talc can be presented in a stylish diaper bag keeping both mommy and baby happy. Themes help evoke inspiration for your baskets. Choose to design your basket around specific themes including bath time, bedtime, or educational toys. An innovative idea for a bath time basket would be to use a portable baby bath as the basket and fill it with lots of baby products such as soap, shampoo, baby oil and bubble bath, also add a few relaxing treats for mommy as well to receive extra appreciation.

Nursery Furnishings: When it comes to decorating a nursery a parent wants items that combine with their chosen theme or color scheme. Inquire what their design intention will be then look for unusual gifts such as clocks, lamps, wall hangings or baby mobiles that would compliment this. A more practical idea like a baby monitor is always a welcome gift to any new nursery.

Milestone Keepsakes: Specialized books designed to hold all your babies first moments make wonderful gifts for parents and baby alike. The unique opportunity to store all their precious first moments such as first hair cut, footprint and lost tooth together with a vast amount of snapshots ensures they receive a gift that is priceless.

Engrave Gifts: No matter how small or large a gift is, making the effort to customize it with personal details like their name, date or time of birth and weight will always add that extra special touch. Great gift ideas for engraving are picture frames, identity bracelets and small keep sake boxes.

Open a personal savings account . When thinking of a truly unique and smart present for any baby why not consider opening a personal savings account for them? By depositing the money you would usually spend on the child in the form of presents you will help teach the child the benefits of savings from an early age. Opportunities such as Birthdays, Christmas, and other special events in the Childs life may be used to make additional deposits into this account. Try ensuring the child will not have access to the monies deposited in the account until they reach the age of 21, this way you will be guaranteeing them an extra boost when they are starting out in life. This truly is a unique gift.

Invest in Shares Investing in stock shares is a great way to teach young children an amazing lesson. Simply by purchasing one or a couple of shares holding interest in the Childs life you will lead them on the correct path of investment. Stocks in child orientated business such as Disneyworld or a Cartoon Network are great ideas for young children as they are able to associate with it. You can continue to purchase shares in companies for them on special occasions until around their 18th birthday including the child on investment decisions as they get older. The amount you spend on stock investment need not be substantial it is the teaching method and investment awareness that it will instill in the child that makes this gift truly unique. It is overwhelmingly evident that finding the unique gift for any baby need not be as difficult as it may first appear. Investing just a little effort and research, you are guaranteed to give a great gift.

Published At: www.Isnare.com

Buying an Appropriate Baby Gift

When shopping for baby gifts, it really depends on what your goal is. Are you shopping for baby gifts for new parents who are just starting out? Are you offering baby gifts that will be useful, or just fun? Perhaps you want to give a baby gift that is memorable and will be passed down from generation to generation. The possibilities are endless.

When shopping for an appropriate baby gift, you may not know exactly what to purchase, especially if you are not a parent and have never been around children or babies. There are so many options to choose from when shopping for baby gifts that it can also become very overwhelming, even for the new parents. The options for baby gifts range from clothing, toys, bathing essentials, baby gear, bedding, and just about anything else you can imagine. Because the parents of a new baby are going to have a lot of expenses getting any gift will make them happy. But you may still be wondering what the appropriate baby gifts are.

One idea for an extremely appropriate baby gift is a personalized blanket or quilt. This is something that the parents will use throughout the baby’s infancy and will “grow up” with the child. A personalized quilt will be used in the crib, on the bed, and the baby may even end up becoming an adult and giving it to his or her own child! A new baby blanket is a wonderful baby gift as well as a keepsake.

If you are thinking of something more practical in the baby gifts arena, ask the parents what they could use the most. Perhaps the parents have made it easy on you and set up a gift registry with a list of baby items that are needed. A baby gift registry is really the easiest way to choose and give baby gifts. You can easily view most baby gift registries online, or visit the store in person. The items are listed and you just choose what you want to give! Nothing could be easier.

If you want to give appropriate baby gifts but do not want to take the route of a personalized baby blanket or the gift registry, you can make up your own baby gift basket. There are so many baby items out there that this is very easy. One idea would be to go with a baby bath time theme. In such a gift scheme you could include a baby comb and brush, baby bath wash, washcloths, towels, baby skincare items, and an array of bath toys. In fact, you could purchase all these items and place them in an infant bathtub. Don’t forget the rubber ducky!

When shopping for baby gifts, there really is no inappropriate baby gift. Just remember to keep in mind that you should go for entertainment value as well as the practical items. Babies need so much, and so do the parents, that shopping for baby gifts really is a snap once you get used to the idea.

Published At: www.Isnare.com

Baby Room Themes: Fun Ideas Your Baby Will Love

ecorating a nursery for your new baby can be a fun and exciting experience. It will be the first place for your baby to dream, to experience, and to grow. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

Location. Calm surroundings are critical to a newborn's development. Avoid room's that are close to a busy street, where there could be more noise. Will the baby's room be on the same floor as your bedroom ? This makes it more convenient to monitor your baby. However, you can always opt for an audio or video monitor.

Time to decorate! Choosing a particular theme and design for your baby room depends on how much you want to spend, how much space you have, and whether it's a boy or a girl. To be safe, you can always go for gender-neutral colors such as greens, purples, and reds.

Choosing a theme. Now it's time to let your imagination run wild. To get some ideas, visit a few baby stores and check out different styles. They may even have example rooms set up that you can check out. Take a look at the following nursery themes to get a few ideas rolling.

Animals. This motif could include kittens, puppies, farm scenes, or teddy bears. This is a common theme that can easily be found in stores. You could purchase everything from the sheet and comforter set to coordinating wall hangings and wall paper.

Cartoon / TV Characters. The options are numerous here. Winnie the Pooh, Spiderman, Aladdin, Curious George, Bugs Bunny, Snoopy, and Peter Pan are just a few examples.

Noah's Ark. This a popular theme with plenty of designs to choose from. You can accesorize with animal pictures, a nursery lamp, bedding, and even a rocking chair.

Dolphins or other underwater scenes. This theme will add a cool, refreshing feeling to your new baby room. The cool colors will also be comforting for you baby. For decorating, you could use sea-related wall hangings, sea shells, a border with waves, or even sea horses.

Crayons. Remember how much fun crayons use to be. Introduce your child to a new and creative world with this theme. You could use accents in the shape of hand prints or stencil of your choice. Place these on the walls, window frames, closet door, or even the lamp shade. Looking for the perfect paint. Crayola has come out with paints with their colors made specifically for the baby's room.

Whichever design you choose, use inexpensive stain-repellant area rugs that can be easily replaced when you want to update the design. You'll want a room that your child can grow into. The most important thing to keep in mind with choosing a baby room theme is make sure that it is safe and comfortable. From there, the possibilities are endless. Best of luck!

Published At: www.Isnare.com

Baby Shower Food: Intimacy At Baby Showers Makes Future Babies

Let us stick with tradition that is here to stay and that is celebrating the birth of a new born infant and the baby shower party to recognize his/her forthcoming presence.

On receiving the good news about the pregnancy friends and family gather to offer their congratulations and fuss over the parents-to-be. But the fussing does not end there, more fuss to come when organizing a baby shower celebration.

If the baby shower is properly planned then you will wonder what all the fuss about.

A good time to throw a baby shower is at least a couple of months before the due date of the new arrival. Remember there are some cultures that do not practise celebrating in a baby shower because of their beliefs where they believe it is bad luck before the infants birth.

Why all the excitement over the new born where baby showers are in order to celebrate babys being.

Think about it, you dont get a second chance because you never have the same baby twice. So do it in style and join in the fun for every new edition to the family.

Making plans for baby shower food is very important. You will want the decoration theme and invitations perfect. But perfection on the day stays with the spread you lay on the table.
You have your little prince/princess on the way now it is time to lay a feast fit for king/queen.

Popular table fillers are
Sandwiches
Chips/fries
Pies (pizzas.)
Pasta
Dessert (cakes, cookies, ice cream, jelly.)
Drinks (punch, juice, wine.) These are just a few ideas and choices are endless but it is up to you what you have on the day

Consider a sit down meal for all the invited guests at the baby shower, remember this is about timing. Make sure to properly map out your list of duties and get the scheduling of the meal right, if not expect your plans to go all topsy turvy.

An easier option is snacks, just as appetizing and filling and less dishes to wash if served on disposable plates. Finger sandwiches filled with different pates, sliced chicken or turkey with fresh salad. Dips of different flavours go down well.

If your theme for the baby party is of a Disney character then work around this with a baby shower cake made up of the cartoon figure which you will find makes a fabulous centrepiece also.
Remember a pretty table makes pretty eating. Decorate the table with baby items cuddly toys, confetti, candy.

It is good to know a more intimate side to your guest then this will give you an idea what food to serve e.g. if vegetarian no steak if on a diet no cakes.

Draw the line on how intimate you get because this baby shower is about THIS BABY not any future ones.

Published At: www.Isnare.com

Dental infant and dental care

Introduction

The dental health starts with your child consumes food of any kind. It is not an inexpensive way to increase and a baby: It takes sweat, at work, a lot of money, patience and much more to have a happy, healthy child. Some studies suggest that you spend somewhere between € 150000 and 200000 dollars for your children by the time they are 18 years old, not including private schools, special classes, or technical college.

But if you wait until you had enough money, time and energy to have your baby, you probably would end without children. Here are some ways to finance, so you enjoy your new bundle of joy.

1st Get health assistance - if you do not have health insurance, and can not afford medical bills can ad up really easy. But there are opportunities out there for people like you and me. The baby is probably one of your biggest, so do not be afraid to ask if your family needs.

2nd breastfeed your baby, if possible. It is free, it is useful and it can help against breast cancer. It is recommended that the best form of nutrition for infants.

If you do not breastfeed, not feel guilty. Try to apply for the WIC (women, infants and children): http://www.fns.usda.gov/wic, a program that helps middle and low income families with educational resources and food. You can also save money by buying formula in bulk, clipping coupons and free samples to accept if they are offered. It is a baby costs you can not do without.

3rd diapers - Some diapers are better than others, but most are basically the same. Store-brand disposable diapers can be just as good as the brand, for a number of U.S. dollars less than their colleagues from the mark. You can even more if you cloth diapers instead of disposable. As with breastfeeding, it's a bit more work, but worthwhile.

4th diapers rash prevention - instead measures in the context of your baby has a diaper rash, prevent them with a drop of olive oil on the bottom each time you change their diaper: It works wonders (if your doctor).

5th Baby food - When it comes to baby, a mixer is your best friend: It helps you, this baby costs to the lowest standard It is not only much cheaper, but there is so much healthier! Save the little baby food jars for quick trips or special occasions, and give your baby food pureed. You can cook a week deliver on weekends, the blended vegetables in the ice cube tray, for a few hours, and then place them in a freezer bag. Depending on your baby's appetite and age, you can microwave one, two or three dice for the meal. It's fast, healthy and cheap.

6th Clothing - There is no need to buy expensive designer clothes for you a little. Do you think that somebody really see that your baby bears Tommy Hilfiger? Babies look at something cute: Waste not your money! You can view the most of your baby clothes in the yard sale or secondhand stores.

7th Toys - they are a big company, but you do not feel under pressure to the newest and most expensive models. My children are satisfied with their everyday objects such as toys: empty shampoo bottles (make sure they are cleaned and rinsed well before they are transferred to your baby), plastic cups, plastic packages of food (margarine, sour cream, etc.) they can stack up, etc. Also buy some toys that can help you with your baby's development, are durable and suitable age: a baby effort worth the money.

8th Wills - Choose a will or update your old one. Name a guardian for your child and the trustee of your child (often but not always the same person). Without a will, the court names of these individuals and also split your assets in accordance with the law, which may not be the way you would want. Do not try to avoid that this baby costs: Your child in the future could hang. A simple, that a trust for minor children costs between $ 150 and $ 250.

We hope that this article has all the necessary information you for the advent of the new baby.

Happy planning!

Buying a new puppy: you should have chosen one or a newborn puppy matured?

Are you planning on getting a newborn puppy or maybe that's just old age? If you want a young puppy, wait until you are at least 8 weeks. If you want more mature infant, about 6 months of age is the best. Bringing home more mature puppy is easier than to a baby puppy. The reason for this is that older puppy will have more chances outgrown baby ways, such as excessive chewing and biting, and most importantly - to be potty trained!

When all the young puppy, we must take into consideration several factors. Puppies that are less than 8 weeks will be a great nipping and biting. We have done this to try and identify a hierarchy. Often times, I will bite their mothers. When this happens, what makes clear, growling and used body language, that this behavior is unacceptable. That is about 6 weeks that the puppies learn to respect the most efficient way, with their mother. Taking in the house and that age are trying to teach them to behave as it is difficult, because we can not say "dog language."

Apart from rubber and biting, the puppies are less than 6 weeks have not yet developed their control bladder and intestines. They can not "hold a" mature puppies as they can. This means for us is that it is much more difficult to house-train a puppy younger and there will be a lot more do cleansers.

Big puppies, however, is much more calm and understanding of daily activities in the household. While this is true only if properly trained and socialized birth at home. Puppies that are ignored will show signs of nervousness, unpredictable, and some aggressiveness. It is very important to observe, puppy choice before making a purchase.

The Truth About Colic

“Colicky” is a label given to babies who cry and fuss for at least three hours a day. But most experts believe it is an overused, ambiguous term at best. “‘Colic’ is an old-fashioned term that actually means ‘upset stomach,’ which it usually isn’t,” says pediatrician Harvey N. Karp, M.D., author of the book and DVD The Happiest Baby on the Block. “It’s starting to be replaced by ‘fussy’ or ‘irritable.’

“But I think the term should continue to be used in some cases,” Karp adds. “About 2 percent of babies have a condition, such as acid reflux or food allergies, that causes them to cry with tummy pain.”
The type of hysterical crying erroneously referred to as colic usually begins at 2 to 6 weeks, generally in the late afternoon or early evening, and lasts until the baby is 3 or 4 months old. Why one in five babies cries in this way is a mystery. One theory outlined in the book Your Fussy Baby by pediatrician Marc Weissbluth, M.D., is that babies are born with out-of-sync levels of serotonin and melatonin. Since serotonin is linked to feelings of happiness and calmness, and melatonin regulates wakefulness and sleep, such imbalances could explain why some babies cry and won’t sleep. Another theory is that the baby misses the snug quarters, constant rocking and sounds of the womb.

Soothing solutions So you can lose the label, but if you’re left with the crying, how do you stop it? Most mothers we interviewed said their best calming tactics involved vibration and noise. Some babies were carried around in slings for hours while their moms vacuumed; others were strapped into bouncy seats on top of clothes dryers. But if nursing, bouncing, holding or using Karp’s “Five S’s” doesn’t work, your baby might indeed have a medical problem, and you should see your doctor.
Still, take heart: Experts and moms say the crying eventually does cease. The key is getting lots of support and company, even if you have to hire it.

Seven reasons babies cry and how to soothe them

Babies cry. There's no way to avoid it — it's one way they communicate. Since your baby can't flat out tell you, you may worry, "How will I know what she wants?" It can be difficult at first, but a large part of parenting is trial and error and you'll soon learn to anticipate her needs, read her cues, and wipe away her tears. Here are the most common reasons babies cry. If your little one is wailing, work your way down the list and chances are you'll find something that helps.

How can I tell why my baby is crying?
She's hungry
Once you learn to recognize the signs that your baby wants to eat — she'll fuss, make noises, and root around for your breast if you pick her up — you'll get pretty good at feeding her before she starts to really cry. Until then, checking to see if she's hungry is a good first step when your baby cries. Food might not stop her crying right away, but let her keep eating if she wants to. She'll stop once her stomach is full.

She needs a fresh diaper
Some babies let you know right away when they need to be changed. Others don't mind when their diapers are soiled — it's warm and comfortable to them. (Parents are often surprised when they pick up their infant and find she's been sitting in a dirty diaper and never made a sound.) Either way, this one is easy to check and simple to remedy.

She's too cold or hot
Newborns like to be bundled up and kept warm. (As a rule, they need to be wearing one more layer than you need to be comfortable.) So when your baby feels cold, like when you remove her clothes to change her, she'll express her discomfort by crying. You'll learn how to quickly change a diaper and wrap your baby back up. Be careful that you don't overdress her, since she's less likely to complain about being too warm than about being too cold and won't cry about it as vigorously.

She wants to be held
Babies need a lot of cuddling. They like to see their parents' faces, hear their voices, and listen to their heartbeats, and can even detect their unique smell (especially Mom's milk). After being fed, burped, and changed, many babies simply want to be held. You may wonder if you'll "spoil" your child by holding her so much, but during the first few months of life that isn't possible. Infants vary a lot in how much they want to be held. Some demand a lot of attention, while others can spend long periods of time sitting calmly by themselves. If your baby likes the attention, pick her up, wear her in a front carrier or sling, or place her next to you.

She can't take it anymore
While newborns often thrive on attention, they can easily become overstimulated and have a meltdown. You may find that your baby cries longer than usual after spending a holiday with many adoring family members or has periods at the end of each day when she seems to cry for no reason. Newborns have difficulty processing all the stimulation they receive — the lights, the noise, being passed from hand to hand — and can become overwhelmed by too much activity. Crying is their way of saying, "I've had enough." This usually happens when your baby is tired. Take her somewhere calm and quiet and let her vent for a while, and then see if you can get her to sleep.

She doesn't feel good
If you've just fed your baby and checked that she's comfortable (she can be troubled by something as subtle as a hair wrapped around her toe or a clothing tag that's poking her), but she's still crying, consider checking her temperature to make sure she isn't ill. The cry of a sick baby tends to be distinct from the hunger or frustration cry, and you'll soon learn when your baby's cries "just don't sound right" and she needs to be taken to the doctor.

None of the above
Sometimes you might not be able to figure out what's wrong. Many newborns develop periods of fussiness when they're not easily soothed. These fussy periods can range from a few minutes of crying to full-blown colic. Colic is defined as inconsolable crying for at least three hours a day and at least three days a week. Even if your baby isn't crying this much, these episodes may be difficult for you. When all else fails, try the tips below.

I can't figure out why she's crying. What should I do?
Wrap her up and hold her close
Newborns like to feel as warm and secure as they did in the womb, so try swaddling your baby in a blanket, wearing her, or holding her against your shoulder. But be aware that some babies find swaddling or cuddling too constrictive and respond better to other forms of comfort such as rhythmic movement or sucking a pacifier.

Let her hear the rhythm
Babies are used to the sound of your heartbeat; that's another reason they love to be held close. You can also try playing soft music, singing a lullaby, or even putting her close to the rhythm of an electric fan or the white noise of a vacuum cleaner.

Put her in motion
Sometimes just the motion of carrying your baby will be enough to calm her. Other times, it may help to rock her gently in a rocking chair or swing, set her in her bouncy seat, or place her in her car seat on top of the dryer while it's on (the dryer's vibrations can cause her seat to move enough to fall off, so make sure you stay by her side while you do this!). You could also push her around outside in her stroller or take her for a ride in the car.

Massage her
Most babies love to be touched, so a massage might be just the thing to soothe your baby. Don't worry about not knowing the perfect movements — as long as they're gentle and slow, they should bring comfort. Also, try rubbing your baby's back or belly. This will help if she's having gas pains — which may be the problem with some colicky babies.

Let her suck on something
Even when she's not hungry, sucking can steady an infant's heart rate, relax her stomach, and calm her flailing limbs. Give her a pacifier or a finger to clamp onto and let her go to town.

Take care of yourself
No baby ever cried herself to death, but a crying baby can be very stressful for new parents. You're chronically sleep-deprived and may already be unsure about how to care for this baby. Mom's emotions are all over the place due to the hormonal changes she's going through. Dad may not be sure what role he should play in caring for the newborn or whether he'll ever get Mom's attention again. Add a crying baby to this scenario and many parents can become overwhelmed with feelings of incompetence.

If you know your baby's needs have been met and you've tried to calm her but she's still crying, it's time to take care of yourself so you don't get too exasperated:

• Put your baby down in a safe place and let her cry for a while.
• Call a friend or relative and ask for advice.
• Give yourself a break and let someone else take over.
• Put on quiet music to distract yourself.
• Take deep breaths.
• Remind yourself that nothing is wrong with your baby and crying won't hurt her — she may just need the release.
• Repeat to yourself, "She will outgrow this phase."
• Whatever you do, don't take your frustration out on your baby by shaking her.

Fortunately, babies (and their parents) are resilient and somehow manage to get through even the most difficult crying episodes. Take heart that by the time your baby is 8 to 12 weeks old, she'll be better able to soothe herself and much of the crying will stop.

(from: http://www.babycenter.com/0_seven-reasons-babies-cry-and-how-to-soothe-them)

Species and tips on choosing cars Seat

One of the most important and most essential components of the equipment that each baby and the child will need is a car seat. Evidence has shown that a well-equipped and installed car seat can save your child's lives even in a minor car accident. Almost every year thousands of young children were slain or injured in car accidents. You can help to prevent this from happening to your baby or child, through the use of car seats and using them correctly. All fifty states require babies to eighteen months old driving in a car seat.

Choosing a car seat?

A car seat has to meet your child. Your first car seat had to buy before baby home from the hospital. With a view to determining the car seat, be sure that your baby fits into the seat, and that if fit well into the vehicle. The important thing to remember is that the cost may not be the decisive factor. They are much more expensive car seats, but that does not necessarily mean they will be easier to use or safer for your baby. You choose the chair is based on the length and weight of your child. Car seats to have both a harness belt and a harness clip. The harness straps should fit on the child's head and lie about your baby's shoulders.

What are the different types of car seats?

They are four different types of car seats available.
Infant-only seat-Infant car seats are only described as rear seats, and are placed in the back seat of the car. A baby must use only one child seat from birth until they are one year old or roads to twenty pounds. The car seat must be able to put on a forty-five degree angle. The car seat should not be placed on the front of an airbag under all circumstances.

Convertible seat-These species are two seats in one. They are placed in the back seat, and they are confronted with the rear of the car. After showing a child, the chairs are positioned to the front of the car.

This combination seat chairs at the front of the car, and are made for children who are one year and older. These seats can also be converted into a booster seat when your child is more than forty pounds.

Booster-seat These are for children who are four to eight years old and weigh between forty and eighty pound. A child must begin using a booster seat when they grow out of his or her car. On site be used until a child is ready for use of seat belts.

Remember that you never had a car that is situated in a crash, or is damaged or has all the elements which are missing. If more than ten years old, not buying. Before the purchase of any car seat, you should check the manufacturer's serial number and model number with the consumer reports to ensure that it has not been recalled or a reminder of the parts.

Always read the instructions regarding the installation, if you are unsure, you should call the company's customer service line and you can learn how to install the car seat. Remember if you are not sure, not about them until you fully understand this can lead to problems later, when an accident would happen. You can also contact a certified child passenger safety technician who can help with this. Keep your baby and child safe is the key.

Getting a child to sleep

Getting your baby to sleep is one of the most challenging things that parents face. Many parents wonder if their child should never sleep all night, or at least sleep comfortably. They are some tips that can help parents teach their children to better night sleep.

Babies in the early stages of their lives can be taught to distinguish between night and day, and this can help them create a better sleeping habits.
Early development

In the event that your child is several weeks old learn the difference between the morning, nap time and bed time. During the day, make sure that you play with your child, feeding and talking with them. At night, keep lights low, and limit the amount of noise, and voices that your child is exposed. In the event that your child is one to two months, put them to bed as soon as the start to show signs that they are tired.
During the day

You must make sure that when a child NAPs during the day differs from sleeping at night. During the NAPs have a child to sleep in portable creches or stroller. Classrooms should not be left completely dark. This way you get started, what is NAPs bed time.
In the night

Novorozené children will sleep an average of sixteen to eighteen hours a day, children need sufficient rest. In order to try to get your child into step by step to establish normal bed time, you should try and do the following to cope with them at night.
Steps

* First, you should try and give the child vykoupat, or at least wash her or his hands. This will give them a reassuring feeling, and help them relax.
* Change the child's diaper and put on his pyjamas, to give them an indication that it's time for bed.
* You can sing softly to the baby or play music low. This will enable the child hears the voice of a well-known and recognizable voice, before drifting off to sleep. Again, this provides a comfortable surrounding for a child and knowing that they are not left alone.
* They should give their child in her arms and rock them before you put him or her to sleep. Do not prolong the situation is short, put them in his villa, while they are still up and leave the room.

Things to avoid

There are some things you should avoid doing before placing a child for bedtime:
* Do not put cereal in his bottle at night, it gives them a feeling that they are not fully and allow them to sleep comfortably. They may have difficulties in digesting food, while sleeping, resulting in an upset stomach.
* Do usínat child with a bottle or nursing, before going to sleep. This will get into zlozvyk you expect to feed, they are up to be able to go back to sleep.

Although no two children are the same, important to bear in mind that the aid is compatible sleep routine will help your child room faster, and finally sleep all night. With these routines, the child begins to understand that this is sleep, yet does not mean that the mother or Dad is leaving, but putting them into bed at night. It will also help create a model, when you earlier, hopefully, which is for them to continue to sleep in their own.

My baby's crying - what can I do?

There are things you can try to comfort a crying baby. Not all of them will work for all babies, so you need to gradually get to know your own baby and her particular personality to find out what works for her and for you.

• Wrap her up and hold her tight
Newborns show a definite preference for feeling snug and secure, just as they were in the womb, so you might like to try swaddling your baby in a blanket to see if she likes that. Many parents also find that holding their baby close, especially when she can hear their heartbeat, or putting her in a baby sling is soothing. Other babies find swaddling too restrictive and respond better to other forms of reassurance such as being rocked or sung to.

• Find a constant rhythm
In the womb, your baby could hear the regular beat of your heart: that's one of the reasons many babies continue to like being held close. However, other regular, repetitive noises can also have a calming effect. You could try playing gentle music or singing a lullaby. Many parents find that if their baby can hear the steady rhythm of a washing machine or the "white noise" of a vacuum cleaner or hairdryer, that will soon lull her off to sleep. (Never put your baby on top of a washing machine or clothes dryer - always put her on the floor next to it.)

• Rock-a-bye baby
Most babies love to be gently rocked, and you may find that your baby is calmed by this, too, whether you walk around rocking her or sit with her in a rocking chair. Special baby swings can soothe some babies, while others are comforted by being in rather faster motion and drop off almost as soon as they're driven somewhere in a car.

• Try a massage
Giving your baby a massage or gently rubbing her back or tummy can help soothe her. If she seems to have pains with wind, try feeding her in a more upright position and winding her after a feed by holding her against your shoulder. Babies who have colic may sometimes be soothed by having their tummies rubbed, and it may make you feel better to know that at least you are trying to do something to help your baby's distress.

• Let her suck on something
In some newborns, the need to suck is very strong and sucking a dummy or (clean) finger or thumb can bring great comfort. "Comfort sucking" can steady a baby's heart rate, relax her stomach, and help her settle.

• Don't demand too much of yourself
A baby who cries almost constantly will do herself no lasting harm, but may cause a great deal of stress and worry for her parents. If your baby seems pretty unhappy to be here and resists every effort that you make to cheer her up or calm her down, it can be hard not to feel rejected as well as frustrated. Parents sometimes blame themselves, feeling that it is their incompetence as parents that is causing the crying, but this is rarely the case. If you know that your baby's needs have been met, that there is nothing physically wrong causing your baby to cry, and if you've tried everything you can think of to calm her but nothing's worked, it's time to take care of yourself so that you don't become overwhelmed. Here are a few suggestions:

• Take deep breaths.

• Put your baby down somewhere and let her cry for a while out of your hearing.

• If it helps, put on some quiet music and let yourself relax for ten minutes.

• Call a friend or relative and get some support. Give yourself a break and let someone else take over for a while.

• Talk to your health visitor about local support groups or mother-and-baby groups where you can share your feelings and discuss ways of coping with the crying with other new parents.

• If it all gets too much, call one of the telephone helplines. The Cry-sis helpline on 020 7404 5011 is for parents of babies who have sleep problems and / or who cry excessively. The helpline is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week for emotional support and practical advice.

• Remind yourself that nothing is wrong with your baby and that crying in itself won't hurt her. Sometimes simply accepting that you have a baby who cries a great deal can help, in that you don't wear yourself out looking for reasons for the crying, blaming yourself for it, or offering endless new remedies which don't work.

• Remind yourself that this is a phase and it will pass.

Being the parent of a newborn is hard work. Being the parent of a newborn who cries a great deal is even harder work. Get help and support when you need it, rather than letting things build up. And take comfort from the fact that each day, as your baby grows, she learns new ways of being able to communicate her needs to you. Gradually, as she does so, the crying will stop.

Why do babies cry?

All babies cry sometimes. They have to. Even entirely healthy newborns will cry for somewhere between one and three hours each day. Unable to do anything for themselves, babies rely on someone else to provide them with the food, warmth, and comfort that they need. Crying is a baby's way of communicating one of those needs. As a new parent, it can sometimes be difficult to work out what your baby is telling you - is she hungry, cold, thirsty, bored, looking for a cuddle? In the early days, when you have not yet learned to work out what your baby needs, this crying can be upsetting. However, you will gradually begin to recognise your baby's different crying patterns and, as you get to know her better, will be able to anticipate her needs.

As babies grow, they gradually learn other ways of communicating with us, too. They get better at eye contact, making noises, and even smiling, all of which reduce the need for crying. The most common reasons babies cry are listed below. If you have a baby who is difficult to soothe, try working your way down the list. That way, you can reassure yourself that you have tried to meet her needs as well as you possibly can.

• I need food
Hunger is the most common reason a new baby will cry. The younger your baby is, the more likely it is that she is crying because she is hungry. The exception to this is in the first day or two after birth, when some babies feed very little. If you are breastfeeding, you may well be aware of this, as the very concentrated early milk, colostrum, is produced in small amounts and you notice when the milk "comes in" around the third day. A baby's small stomach cannot hold very much, so if your baby cries, try offering her some milk, as it may well be that she is hungry. She might not stop crying immediately, but let her keep feeding if she wants to, and she will gradually be soothed as her stomach fills up. If your baby has been fed and is still crying, however, perhaps she is expressing the next need.

• I need to be comfortable
Babies will very sensibly protest if their clothes are too tight or if a soiled nappy is bothering them. Some babies don't seem to mind if their nappies are full - it just feels warm and comfortable to them - while others will call out to be changed immediately, especially if some tender skin is being irritated. Checking your baby's nappy and changing it may meet her needs, so this is always worth trying. It also gives you an opportunity to check that a nappy tab isn't too tight or that there isn't something else about her clothing making her uncomfortable.

• I need to be warm - and not too hot or too cold
Some newborns hate having their nappy changed or being bathed - they are not used to the feel of the air on their skin and much prefer to be bundled up and warm. If your baby is like this, you will soon learn how to perform a nappy change quickly so that you can calm her down again. Take care not to overdress your baby, though, so that she gets too hot. A good rule to follow is that she needs to wear one more layer of clothing than you do to be comfortable.

In the cot or Moses basket, try using a sheet and cellular blankets as bedding, rather than a duvet, so you can add and remove layers as necessary. You can check whether your baby is too hot or too cold by feeling her stomach: if she's too hot, remove a blanket, if she's cold, add one. Don't be guided by her hands or feet, as it is normal for them to feel slightly cold. Keep your baby's room at a temperature of around 18 degrees C / 64 degrees F, and put her down to sleep on her back with her feet at the end of the cot so that she can't wriggle too far down under the blankets and get too hot that way.

• I need to be held
Some babies need a great deal of cuddling and reassurance. An older child may be soothed by seeing you in the room or hearing your voice, but new babies often need close physical contact for comfort. If you've fed your baby and changed her nappy, you may find that she now simply wants to be held. Some parents worry that they will "spoil" their baby if they hold her too much, but during the first few months of life that's impossible. While some babies don't seem to need that much physical contact, others want to be held almost all the time. If your baby needs a lot of holding, you might like to try a baby sling, which allows you to keep your baby close while leaving your hands free for other tasks; this may be a solution that keeps you both happy.

• I need a rest
It is easy to assume that babies will fall asleep whenever they need to, wherever they are, simply because so many of them do. However, if your baby has been receiving a lot of attention - perhaps you've had a busy day with hordes of visitors round - she may become overstimulated and then find it hard to "switch off" and settle. Newborns can find it difficult to cope with too much stimulation at once - the lights, the noise, being passed from one adoring relative to the next - and can become overwhelmed by it all. Many parents have found that their baby cries more than usual when relatives come to stay, or sometimes just towards the end of each day. If there seems to be no specific reason for your baby's crying, she may just be saying, "I've had enough". If you can take her somewhere calm and quiet, gradually withdrawing the stimulation, she may express her feelings by crying for a while and then eventually settling to sleep.

• I need something to make me feel better
If you've fed your baby and checked that she's comfortable, but she's still continuing to cry, you may wonder if she is ill or in pain. First-time parents often find it difficult to tell whether their baby is crying purely because she's an unhappy baby by nature (and some are, as it takes them a long time to adjust to being in the world) or whether there's something genuinely wrong. A baby who is ill often cries in a different tone to her usual cry - it may be more urgent or high-pitched. Equally, for a baby who normally cries frequently, an unusual quietness may be a sign that she's not well. The most important thing to remember is that nobody knows your baby as well as you do. If you feel that there may be something wrong, give your GP, midwife, or health visitor a call. Health professionals will always take your concerns seriously, and it may be reassuring for you to know that there isn't a physical cause for your baby's crying. Always call your doctor if your baby has difficulty breathing through the crying, or if the crying is accompanied by vomiting, diarrhoea, or constipation. See our article on when to call the doctor

• I need something ... but I don't know what
Sometimes you might not be able to figure out what's wrong when your baby cries. Many newborns go through patches of fretfulness and are not easily comforted. The unhappiness can range from a few minutes of hard-to-console crying to several hours at a stretch, an almost constant state of crying that is sometimes called colic. Colic is defined as inconsolable crying for at least three hours a day, for at least three days a week. Many parents find it very difficult to cope with a baby who has colic, and it can put a strain on the whole family. There is no magic cure for colic, but it rarely lasts for more than three months. If you can hold on to the fact that your baby will grow out of it, that may help. See our article on coping with colic for more strategies on how to deal with this distressing condition. for more guidance.

Useful information on choosing a baby shampoo and tips on washing your baby's hair

Baby shampoos need to be incredibly gentle because of the risk that at least some of it will end up in or near your baby's eyes or mouth, although shampoo shields can be used to prevent this.

Baby shampoos are specially designed to gently cleanse, moisturise and protect your baby's scalp and hair and are much softer on the skin than those designed for adults.

When choosing a baby shampoo you should look for one that is free of soap and alcohol and that is hypoallergenic and dematologically tested. If your baby has sensitive or dry skin you should avoid baby shampoos that are perfumed or that contain fragrance.

Organic and natural baby shampoos are also available. These are designed to be kinder to the environment as well as your baby's hair and skin and often use essential oils in place of chemically derived fragrances.

You only need to wash a small baby's hair once a week and should use only the tiniest blob of shampoo. It is important to be very sensitive to your baby's head as well as avoid rinsing over the face (this shouldn't be too much of a problem with a very young baby if you support them with one arm and rinse with the other). You must rinse well to avoid residual product causing irritation.

To help keep your baby wam and happy after a hair wash, you should wrap them in a hooded towel as soon as you take them out of the bath.

How to bath your baby

How to bath your baby and what you will need to make baby-bathing easier:

Get together everything you may need to bath your baby.

Take your baby to the bathroom or place you have chosen to bath him and undress your baby, only when the bath water is completely ready. At first your baby is going to be a bit of a couch potato, sleeping up to twenty
hours in a day. This is fine, even expected, and as long as Baby sleeps on his or her back everything is safe.

During fits of crying, your baby may accidentally scratch its face. Nails grow quickly and long at this stage of a child's development. Be sure to trim the nails on a regular basis to limit scratching.

Until the crawling stage, Baby just won't be getting that dirty. Bathing is only necessary once or at most twice a week. Until the umbilical stub falls off, sponge baths in the kitchen are best. Shampoo Baby's hair as a part of each bath. Be sure to include mild soaps and shampoo as part of the supplies in your newborn baby care regimen.

Don't put any soap on Baby's face, water will do for now. Baths should come one hour before a meal or a couple of hours after. Wash the baby from head to toe, leaving the diaper area until the end. Be sure to thoroughly but gently clean this area and pat it dry. The cleaner the genital and anal areas the less chance Baby will suffer from diaper rash and other irritations.

Diaper changing may not be the most glamorous part of parenting, but someone's gotta do it. A new diaper should come after a bath and after each soiling obviously. There's a different method for boys and girls. If your baby is a boy, thoroughly wash his private area. If he is uncircumcised, there's no need to push the foreskin back. If you are confused about how to appropriately clean a male child, talk with your pediatrician. If patients are hospitalized for other conditions, the mortality rate is higher than 25%.

For stillborn and very early infants the death rate due to pneumonia is about 20%.

For AIDS patients, the mortality rate due to pneumonia may be higher and up to 50%.

Risk Factors for Recurrent Pneumonia in Children

Some children are at more risk of pneumonia than others and risk factors include

Inborn lung and heart defects.

Impaired immune system

Problem in muscle co-ordination.

Asthma.

GERD.

Certain genetic disorders including cystic fibrosis and sickle cell disease.

Treatment

Several antibiotics are available for treating pneumonia. It is the choice of doctor to decide most effective antibiotic for treating a particular patient of pneumonia and the choice depends on various factors including age of patient, severity of problem and other associated symptoms.

Side Effects

The most common side effects of these antibiotics include gastrointestinal distress, allergic reaction and skin rashes.

Prevention

Children should be given vaccines to prevent infections caused by viruses or bacteria.

Children should be given immunizations against haemophilus influenza and pertusis.

Tuberculosis screening should be carried out annually in children of high risk areas for preventing active tuberculosis and pneumonia.

Summary: Pneumonia, a lung infection is common in children and should be treated as soon as the first symptoms appear. The prevention of pneumonia can also be encouraged by vaccinations for various viruses and bacteria.

Polio: Information History, Symptoms and Treatment

Understanding Polio

Today, most polio outbreaks occur in Haiti, Nigeria and India. This highly contagious viral disease may cause total loss of muscle function. A communicable disease, poliomyelitis (polio) can also lead to respiratory infection or death. The only appropriate standard of care is immunization.

Polio spreads through human contact after introduction to the body through the mouth. The majority of polio victims are introduced to the virus following consumption of contaminated water or food. The poliovirus invades the nervous system after the initial point of contact. Within hours, polio may cause the onset of paralysis. Immunization.

While polio can affect any age demographic, polio cases are normally reported among youth between the ages of 3-5. For this reason, medical agencies recommend preventative care during childhood.

The best way to avoid polio is to receive immunizations. This invaluable scientific tool controls the spread of disease. Immunizations equip the human body with an ability to fight attacks from specified harmful bodies. When a doctor immunizes a patient, a small dosage of the offending virus enters the body. In most patients, the body will then build up a defense to the disease. This should protect the body from full-blown eruptions of a particular disease.

History

Jakob Heine first recognized polio as a disease in 1840. Dr. Jonas Salk introduced IPV, the inactivated poliovirus vaccine, in 1955 as a mode of treatment. By 1961, the Sabin vaccine had been introduced to the medical community. The Sabin vaccine is an oral medication known as oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV).

Symptoms

Acute illness will last less than three weeks. After infection, victims suffer from fever, headache, localized pain, vomiting, and extreme fatigue. Unfortunately, most people who have been exposed to polio may not immediately exhibit symptoms.

The incubation period for polio ranges between 3-35 days. After infection, victims release virus particles in their solid waste for several weeks.

Treatment

In rare instances, usage of OPV will lead to paralytic polio. Due to that, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Center for Disease Control strongly urge physicians to utilize IPV as the sole form of immunization against polio infection. This inactivated poliovirus vaccine has the ability to prevent polio.

Vaccination in Children

Medical professionals recommend that children receive polio vaccinations in four dosages. A child will receive a dosage at 2 months of age and 4 months of age. The third vaccination is given between 6-18 months. Finally, youth receive a booster shot between 4-6 years of age.

Vaccination in Adults

Adults who received vaccinations as children will not need additional vaccination unless there are factors present that indicate higher levels of risk exposure. For example, adults who travel to areas of the world ravaged by polio outbreaks are more susceptible to contraction of this infection. Laboratory workers who handle the poliovirus, as well as health care professionals who interact with polio victims, also maintain a higher risk level for polio contraction. Those three adult populations must receive polio booster shots as is recommended by health care experts.

When to Avoid Vaccination

People with minor illnesses will not receive the polio vaccine until they have recovered. Any illness, including the "common cold," has compromised the body's immune system.

Polio vaccinations are also not recommended for individuals who suffer from certain allergies. A physician will counsel patients who are not able to receive the inactivated poliovirus vaccine.

Summary: Polio is no longer a major health concern in the United States. However, polio is still a highly contagious disease that negatively affects the health of individuals. The only way to defend the human body against polio is through immunization. The preferred mode of treatment is inactivated poliovirus vaccine, which should be introduced to the human body during childhood.

Rheumatic Fever: Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatment

Rheumatic fever is an inflammatory illness that can affect the heart, skin, nervous system, and joints. This medical affliction can attack any age group, but is prevalent in female youth. Outbreaks of rheumatic fever are more common in children between 6 and 16 years of age. Although outbreaks of rheumatic fever have virtually disappeared in the United States, this ailment continues to compromise human health in numerous developing countries.

Rheumatic fever and Strep Throat

Rheumatic fever is a painful ailment that generally follows an untreated streptococcal throat infection. This bacterial infection is also called strep throat. Strep throat attacks tissues in the back of the throat and the tonsils. Inflammation and irritation of those tissues causes a severe sore throat.

Strep Throat

Common symptoms of strep throat are a severe sore throat, difficulty swallowing, fever, and swollen tonsils. Strep throat may also cause the development of white or yellow spots on the tongue or on the back of the inflamed throat. Sufferers of strep throat often experience abdominal pain, headaches, and other feelings of wide-ranging discomfort.

Strep throat is not associated with symptoms of the common cold such as coughing, sneezing, or a runny nose. Unlike the common cold, strep throat can be treated with antibiotics. However, antibiotic care is only effective within 2-3 days of the eruption of symptoms. With or without treatment, strep throat will normally disappear within 7 days.

Victims

Rheumatic fever can occur at any age, but most frequently occurs in children between the ages of 6 and 16 years. The disease is more common in females.

It is important to recognize that not all episodes of strep throat lead to rheumatic fever. Nonetheless, development of rheumatic fever is a serious medical obstacle. Onset of this disease can affect numerous portions of the human body.

Symptoms

Symptoms of rheumatic fever generally appear within five weeks after untreated strep throat.

In addition to general indicators of strep throat, victims of rheumatic fever may experience shortness of breath, chest pain, and painful, swollen joints. Rheumatic fever can also cause skin rashes on the chest, stomach, and back.

Diagnosis

To diagnose rheumatic fever, a doctor must detect the existence of a strep throat infection. Doctors detect strep throat by running a cotton swab over the back of the throat. The swab collects a sample of bacteria that will be cultured. The bacterial culture will be studied in a laboratory to confirm whether streptococcal bacteria are present.

A doctor will also listen to the heart and scrutinize the body for nodules located on the joints. Nodules will usually erupt on the knee and ankle joints. Some medical professionals will also diagnose rheumatic fever after conducting blood tests, chest x-rays or utilizing an electrocardiogram.

Treatment

There is no cure for rheumatic fever, but outbreaks can be prevented by promptly treating strep throat. Victims of rheumatic fever normally fully recover within six weeks.

Complications

Although patients may feel well, long-term damage may exist. In some instances, rheumatic fever causes permanent heart damage. The doctor may recommend surgery to repair or replace damaged heart valves. Untreated valves disrupt the flow of blood. Damaged valves cause the blood to flow backwards. Damaged valves may also reduce the amount of blood flow necessary for normal function.

Summary: Rheumatic fever is a serious ailment caused by untreated strep throat that will affect the heart, skin, and nervous system. This illness predominately affects youth, but is capable of harming any age group. Although incurable, rheumatic fever can be treated with antibiotics. After the course of acute illness dissipates, victims of rheumatic fever may suffer from long-term side affects such as heart damage.

Smallpox Vaccine in Children

The disease Smallpox is categorized as highly dangerous and harmful infectious virus that in occasions can provoke the death. The smallpox is also known as Variola virus. The prevention of contagious is the most effective treatment because it has no specific treatment except the vaccine. The name Variola comes from the Latin word for "spotted" referring to the raised bumps in the face and the body seen in the infected persons.

Two clinical forms of smallpox

Variola major is the most dangerous of the smallpox forms.

There four subtypes of this severe smallpox

Ordinary smallpox: it is the most common form (it occurs approximately in the ninety percent of cases) and provokes an extensive rash accompanying it with high periods of fever.

Moderated smallpox: it is mild and usually occurs in vaccinated persons

Flat smallpox and hemorrhagic smallpox: if they occur separated there are no fatal as when they are going together; when occurs the flat-hemorrhagic modality the consequences are usually fatal (a thirty percent of the infected patients die with this type of smallpox).

Variola minor is the less common representation of this infectious disease. Usually represents only the one percent of the smallpox cases in the world, and the consequences are much less severe than its counterpart the Variola major.

Where there is smallpox now?

Although the smallpox was eradicated from world human populations several years ago, the US government is preoccupied because this virus can be used by the bioterrorism against civilization and by this reason; there have been taken new precautions to prevent that occurs this scenario inside the USA or in other part of the world.

Symptoms of a smallpox infection

This disease can be divided in several infection periods:

The non-contagious incubation period: its duration is about seven to seventeen days. There are no symptoms during the incubation period.

Prodome or initial symptoms: there are symptoms like high fever, rash, malaise and vomiting. This period endures about two to five days.

Early rash period: This period is extremely contagious and it could be lasts about four days and is characterized by the budding of bumper spots starting first on the head and then spreading on the extremities (arms and legs).

The contagious scab period: After the formation of pustules there is a crusting and scabbing period, that can be as long as fifteen days.

Finally, the scabs are resolved, the scabs has fallen. This period is non-contagious.

The transmission and the children vaccination

The unique natural host of smallpox are the humans and it passes form one to the other person generally through an extended face-to-face contact or through bodily fluids or contaminated objects. The aerial transmission is not common with smallpox though there are cases that confirmed this. The only treatment is the prevention, but a vaccine would no be recommended to all persons by the only purpose of a general prevention campaign against a possible risk of infection.

Why is not recommended the smallpox vaccination in the childhood population?

There some points that support this recommendation:

There a great risk of dangerous side effects when the child is vaccinated including the possibility of allergic induced fatalities.

The vaccine is too expensive.

The actual risk of a bioterrorist act using the smallpox virus is too low.

Actually, the FDA has not approved any smallpox vaccine for the childhood population.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the Dryvax vaccine used in adults had shown to be effective only in adults and there is no clinical trials that had test it with children, therefore, the efficacy of Dryvax in children never has been proved.

Children physiology's response is distinct from the adult response.

Summary: Smallpox is an eradicated virus that could be dangerous again with the terrorism and bioterrorism. Although there is several vaccines is not recommended to vaccine infants and children because its unknown results in them.

Tetanus: Types, Symptoms, Treatment and Prevention

Introduction

Tetanus is a serious and fatal disease caused by bacterial toxin produced by the bacterium tetani and affects the nervous system. A cut or wound on the skin are infected by the bacteria, which is generally found in agricultural soil, intestines and feces of various animals including rats, dogs, cats, chickens, guinea pigs. Infection may cause severe muscle spasms including locking of jaw.

Clostridium Tetani

C. tetani is a gram-positive, anaerobic, spore forming bacteria. These spores are found in manure, agricultural soils, feces of animals and can survive for month to years. The spores are resistant to heat and antiseptic and can survive a few minutes at more than 100 degree centigrade. The toxin produced by C. tetani is tetanolysin and tetanospasmin. Tetanospasmin acts as neutroxin and causes the disease tetanus.

Neonatal Tetanus

This forms of tetanus occurs in newborn infants, born without protective passive immune. Neonatal tetanus occurs through infection of the unhealed umbilical stump, especially when the stump is cut with an unsterlite knife or blade. This is common in some of the developing countries and developed countries report a few tetanus cases.

Incubation Period

The incubation for neonates varies from 4 to 14 days; however the incubation for adults may vary from 3 days to 15 weeks. The incubation period depends on the distance of wound from central nervous system and severity of wounds. A deep wound may allow bacteria to attain its full strength and may cause severe infection and result may be more fatal.

Symptoms

The first early symptoms of tetanus may be the jaw spasm also called lockjaw. This causes difficulty in moving jaw muscles and eating and swallowing.

The other symptoms follow lockjaw includes stiffness in neck and back and rigidity in muscles of abdomen.

he muscular spasms may expand to throughout of the body and sometimes may even cause muscle tears.

Body temperature rises 2 to 4 degree centigrade and sweating occurs.

Rise in blood pressure and heart rate are additional symptoms of tetanus.

Wound Care and Treatment

The wound must be cleaned and infected tissues should be taken out to reduce the bacteria. If wounds are deep and the patient had earlier taken zero to two doses of tetanus toxoid, should be given TIG as well as Td toxoid.

Recovery and Mortality:

Initial recovery in muscle may begin within 3 to 4 weeks but complete recovery may take months and in some cases up to one year or more than one.

Mortality rate may be high and highest mortality rate is in some of the developing countries.

Complication in tetanus

The vocal cord spasm and muscle spasm may lead to respiration problem.

Contractions and convulsions in muscle may lead to fracture of the spine or long bones.

Nervous system abnormality may led to hypertension and abnormal heart rhythm.

Prolonged hospitalization can lead to Nosocomial infections. Secondary infection may also cause sepsis from catheters and decubitus ulcers.

A common late complication of tetanus is aspiration pneumonia and found in majority of autopsied cases.

Prevention

All children should be vaccinated. Tetanus vaccines are available worldwide and booster vaccines should be recommended at every 10-year interval. If a person suffers a wound and he or she is unable to remember, when he or she has earlier vaccinated, the person should be vaccinated with a tetanus booster DTaP.

Summary: Tetanus is a serious and fatal disease with high mortality rate. To prevent, vaccinations should be given to the children as per the plan and should not be stopped in middle. At the interval of 10 years tetanus boosters should be taken to avoid the fatal disease.

Typhoid: Information, Symptoms, Treatment and Prevention

Introduction

Typhoid is caused by bacterium salmonella typhi. Bacterium salmonella typhi is only finding in human and is responsible for causing the infectious feverish disease, if not properly treated may lead to serious illness and even sometimes the disease may be fatal.

The bacteria are found only in humans, and are passed to the human by a carrier of bacteria through water or food.

Hygiene and Disease

Hygiene and sanitary conditions determines the spread of typhoid. Poor hygiene and sanitary conditions in some part of the developing countries , large parts of Asia, Africa, Central and South Africa are responsible for spread of typhoid in these areas. Due to the good hygienic conditions and sanitary conditions in some parts of Europe and US, rare hypoid cases are reported in this part of the world.

The storage of food and food preparation procedure is also a factor for proper hygiene. If any bacteria are present in food before preparation or during storage, it should not multiply.

Incubation Period

if some one is exposed to sufficient enough quantity of bacteria capable to cause typhoid, the symptoms of the disease may not start immediately. The days required to begin the symptoms from the day, the person is exposed to bacteria is known as incubation period. Incubation period for typhoid is ten to twenty days and will depend on various factors including the quantity of bacteria, the age and other health conditions of patients.

If after incubation period, mild symptoms appear, the bacteria may be eliminated by mild therapy and the person may become a healthy carrier of the bacteria and infection.

Symptoms of Typhoid

Typhoid is a serious feverish disease and fever is primary symptom of the disease. Some other symptoms include digestive system and small-bowl symptoms if the disease enters in the second phase.

Phases of typhoid fever

There are two phases of the disease as mentioned below.

First Phase: The child's temperature rises slowly to 40 degree centigrade and the condition of child deteriorates continuously and develops additional symptoms such as appetite loss, vomiting, diarrhea, low feeding, coughing, and sweating. Some additional skin symptoms may also develop.

Second Phase: The first phase may be as long as one week and at the end of the week, the child may develop symptoms of intestinal infection. The temperature of the child remains high for second to third week. In the third week, the child also develops severe diarrhea.

Treatment

Various antibiotics are available in the market and after monitoring the symptoms the doctor will recommend appropriate antibiotic and monitor the effect of antibiotic in-patient for a few days or until the condition of patient is stable. It is also advised the maintaining good hygienic and sanitary conditions will prevent the recurrence of the disease.

Prevention

if you suspect a potential typhoid exposure, you should take a vaccine or oral medicine to protect you from infection of salmonella typhi at least two weeks prior. The inject able vaccines has very few side effect and the injection is efficient for three years.

Summary: Typhoid is a serious disease caused by bacteria salmonella typhi and is common in developing countries where unhygienic conditions prevail. The bacterial infection takes place from human and if infected, a proper treatment of antibiotic should be taken.

Varicella or Chicken Pox: Symptoms, Complications and Risk Factors

What is Varicella?

Varicella or "chickenpox" is a benign, self-limited, infection produced primarily by the varicella-zoster virus, a herpes virus. It infected near four million children each year only in the United Sates, causing more than four thousands hospitalizations per year and causing near one hundred deaths per year.

How a child can be infected with varicella?

The disease is produce by inhalation of virus infected respiratory secretions or by direct contact with skin lesions produced due to the virus. The child can get this virus simply by playing with other infected child in home, the school or kindergarten.

The ages that most frequently the infection occurs in infants are between three to six years old. An example of this, of all the reported cases ninety-five percent were children belonging to this age range, and only the five percent of the reported cases were in older children.

It can affect girls and boys without significant statistical differences.

The statistics says that between the months from August to October is the peak period of reported Varicella cases in children during a normal year.

What are primary viremia and secondary viremia?

Primary viremia is the first time infection with the varicella-zoster virus; the infected person is usually a healthy child.

Secondary viremia occurs when viral particles begin to spread on the skin causing the typical skin blisters associated with this virus.

What are the most frequent symptoms of chickenpox virus infection in a child?

During the late primary viremia:

Headache

Anorexia

Fever, usually can be very high

General malaise

During the secondary viremia:

Erupting lesions beginning first on the trunk and then spreading to other parts: scalp, arms and legs.

The first presentation of this skin lesion occurs a few days the general malaise and high fever appeared and the lesions begin as red maculae and then will become .

A general rash is presented that in occasions is very itchy.

The blister lesions also can occur into the mouth, especially, into the throat and tonsils.

What are the most frequent complications of chickenpox?

Pneumonia

Encephalitis

Hepatitis

Neonate chicken pox

Neonatal varicella is caused by maternal virus infection, leading to spread of the virus across the placenta.

Varicella during the first three months of pregnant can induce serious malformations to the fetus that could be shown as congenital malformation like abnormalities in the ocular structures and nervous system, limb atrophies and possible growth retardation.

Neonates born from infected women during five days before delivery or fewer than two days postpartum can be infected by the also dangerous Varicella Neonatorum; this is a disseminated manifestation of the virus in the baby that could cause severe and hemorrhagic lesions in the lungs and the liver, making this a potentially fatal disease.

What are the risk factors?

Your baby is at higher risk if never has had this disease.

Your child is at higher risk if he/she is under a immunosuppressant therapy

Vaccine is the most useful manner to prevent varicella disease; Babies are prone to a host of diseases and are more susceptible to them than adults. That is why it is very critical for parents to immunize their babies against these diseases at the right time. Neglecting to do so might make you regret it for a long time to come. It is important for parents to keep a chart in order to track when and what injections should be given. Otherwise it can get quite confusing and you may end up missing out on a particular vaccination. If you are keen to know more details about these diseases, their symptoms and how to avoid them or cure them, please browse through the links provided for you along the left panel on our site.

So what are the common but dangerous diseases that babies should be protected against? We will go through a few of them in brief just to give you an overview.

Chicken Pox is one of the most common diseases that children get especially between the ages of 3 and 6. It is caused by a virus and though it is not highly dangerous, sufficient care should be taken during the infection period. A child can get this infection just by being in contact with another person who is infected.

Typhoid is quite a serious condition because if it is not treated properly and at the right time, it can lead to various complications. This bacteria is mainly transmitted to humans from contaminated food and water. Fever is the most common symptom of this disease and it can be treated with antibiotics. Vaccinations are also available these days and should be taken every three years.

Tetanus is a fatal disease again cause by bacteria which affects the nervous system in the human body. It is mainly contracted through a wound which comes in contact with soil or grime which contains animal feces. The main symptom is locked jaw. To prevent tetanus, any wound should be cleaned immediately with antiseptic lotion and it is best to get a tetanus shot to be on the safe side.

Polio is another disease that can be prevented in children by giving the vaccinations at the proper time. It is a virus which affects the nervous system and leads to paralysis. From the time a bay is born till the age of six, a child should ideally receive four doses of the Polio vaccine.

Then there are others like Mumps, Measles and Diphtheria for all of which vaccines are available. Small-pox has been eradicated and therefore vaccines are not given these days though it is available.

Parents should ensure that they do not miss the boosters for the vaccinations that the children are taking. They should follow the plan given by the doctors and should not drop it in between. If proper care is taken, many of these diseases can be avoided. We encourage you to read more of these diseases so as to prevent your children from contracting the same.

Baby’s Carriage

One of the most important and significant purchases that you will ever make for your baby is to purchase a baby stroller or carriage for him or her. The seat should be covered and well padded. Make sure that the carriage offers a smooth ride for the child. If so, this is probably a good time to invest in some durable baby furniture for your little one. Maybe you are wondering what kind of furniture your baby requires. As your baby grows, the requirements for furniture will keep changing. Therefore it is advisable to buy the furniture stage by stage as and when you feel the need. There is no necessity to buy everything at once.

It is good to check out what is available in the market, compare prices; quality and storability factor before you go out and buy the items. Also keep in mind your budget and how much you can stretch. Many of the furniture items are things that you can do away with but you definitely have to buy at least the essential ones that your baby will require. Well here are some of the items that you can start off with.

Baby Carriage/ Stroller

Baby stroller or carriage is an essential item, which makes life much easier for the parents. There are different types of strollers available in the market today with varying styles, shapes and usability levels. Look for a strong and sturdy stroller with stable wheels and a good metal frame.

Cot/ Crib/ Cradle

It is a good practice to allow your baby to sleep on a separate cot and not share the same bed with the parents. This way the parents can be more relaxed as they don't have to worry about hurting the child in their sleep. A baby cot has to have railings on all sides in order to protect the baby from falling or rolling out while sleeping. The cot can be customized as per your requirement. It can have colorful toys hanging down which the baby can play with and be occupied while the mother is busy with some other activity.

Car Seat

This is one of the most important items that you can invest it. It is important that you never travel with a baby in the car unless you keep the baby in a car seat. This can help prevent injuries and harm to the baby in the event of any accident. Car seats with detachable bases are easier to use, as it need not be installed every time in the car. Make sure to follow all the installation instructions carefully.

Baby Closet

If a baby has a small closet of its own, you can store all their clothes, diapers, nappies, shoes and other accessories in one place instead of having them scattered in different drawers and places in the house. This will also make finding things much easier for the mother and can save a lot of time.

High Chairs

This is probably one of the most used furniture item besides a crib. Since it needs to be used many times a day and can be used for a few years, a high chair should be attractive, functional and durable. They should be easy to clean and store. Therefore a wooden chair is probably not a good idea though they look attractive. Choose one with a wide base for better stability and ensure that the safety belts are comfortable. Always buy furniture that will last long and is strong. These can be passed down to others in your family or can be stored and used at the arrival of your next child. Happy Shopping!

Baby Clothes and Baby Clothing

Baby Clothes and Baby Clothing

Baby Clothes is too general a phrase. It does nothing to explain to parents about the variety in brand, cost and sizes in clothing that is available to their child.

Buying clothes for a baby can be just as difficult as buying them for an adult. The variety is astounding. When you are searching for baby clothes one never thinks they will have to make decisions about what type of brand, cost, size they are looking for. One never thinks to ask themselves, "Am I looking for clothing for everyday or for a special occasion? Yet, the fact is these are important things that one must think about before going shopping for baby clothes. I bet it would surprise many people to know that buying baby clothes for a child of six months is not the same as buying them for a newborn child. To help you sort through all the things you should think about when buying baby clothes for a specific age keep reading this article.

Baby Clothes Newborn to Three months

When buying clothes for a newborn baby or one that is about three months old, it is not just about style but about safety as well.
